Stourbridge-based specialist commercial body builder LCVT has gained approval from OEM Stellantis for its low-line chassis conversion and associated bodywork.
LCVT has been manufacturing its own low floor, spaceframe chassis conversion since 2018. Engineered specifically for the commercial vehicle market, the chassis has a wide range of applications including the highly successful LCVT Low Floor Traffic Management vehicle and Tool Hire variant.
LCVT has also supplied chassis conversions for Luton Box bodies and Exhibition vehicles during the last six years of which more than four hundred vehicles are on the road.
The chassis conversion utilises a standard chassis cab as the donor vehicle but unlike other chassis conversions, LCVT employs an engineered ‘shoe’ which sits up inside the cab chassis. This ensures the interface between the cab and chassis is equal if not stronger than the original equipment chassis, verified during dynamic testing at MIRA.
LCVT director Steve Elwell praised the close work by the company’s engineering team who worked closely with Stellantis management to achieve the approval status.
“LCVT are currently the only company that I’m aware of in the UK who manufacture their own chassis conversion which has been awarded Stellantis Approval, and I am extremely excited about the opportunities this will open up to us as a business as we move into 2025,” Elwell added.
