THE pandemic

The pandemic has changed many aspects of life for people in 2020 and it has been a difficult year for all.

One of the most interesting ways that it has changed life is that it has led to a surge in staycations this year and this could be a trend that sticks around even once the pandemic has ended.

Rise in staycations

The Government has encouraged people to stay in the UK when planning a holiday this year and there have been various restrictions and rules which have deterred international travel, including being forced to quarantine upon arrival back home which is not a realistic option for many.

As a result, people have decided to stay in the UK which can be much easier, safer and more affordable than international travel.

Motorhome sales rising

In particular, motorhome holidays are proving to be incredibly popular amongst Brits in 2020 with the sale of camper vans and other recreational vehicles going through the roof after the lifting of lockdown measures in July. One campervan dealer sold an entire month’s worth of stock in just the first week after lockdown with Auto Trader reporting that caravan and motorhome adverts were up 18% and 17% respectively.

Benefits of motorhome holidays in 2020

So, why exactly are people deciding to buy a motorhome during the pandemic? Peter Vaughn from Which Motorhome Magazine stated that “It’s a combination of people not wanting to holiday abroad, get on a plane or a cruise and looking for a safe and enjoyable holiday at home”.

This certainly makes sense as a motorhome allows people to travel and vacation safely while maintaining social distancing.

Additional benefits

In addition to this, owning your own motorhome can also provide a great sense of freedom and flexibility when it comes to going on holiday. A motorhome allows people to enjoy holiday destinations all over the UK with ease and people are discovering that there are many fantastic places all over the UK for a staycation which allows them to enjoy the natural beauty on offer.

While it will be at a cost upfront, this can also help people to make enormous savings in the long-term as opposed to booking an international holiday every year.

Considerations

It is easy to see why people are buying motorhomes in 2020 and it seems plausible that staycations will be the new norm even after the pandemic has ended as there are so many perks. Buying a motorhome is a major decision to make, though, and not one which should be made lightly.

You need to think about what your needs are from the vehicle, how much you can afford to spend and where it will be stored when not in use. Additionally, it is important to arrange motorhome insurance through a specialist so that you are able to protect both the vehicle and its contents and have peace of mind knowing that you have protection in place.

The pandemic this year has led to a surge in staycations and people opting for a motorhome holiday. This makes a lot of sense and it is easy to see these holidays remaining popular once the pandemic ends because they can provide freedom and flexibility while being cost-effective.
