WHEN you hear the word van, your first thoughts are most likely to turn towards the classic Ford Transit and its numerous variations.

While the Transit remains arguably the most iconic van, however, there is an incredible range of options to choose from on the modern market and this is something for both personal and business users to give careful consideration too.

If you are looking to buy a brand new van or a used van on finance, you will need to choose a model that suits your precise needs.

Which vans can hold the most volume?

In general terms, commercial buyers will be looking to invest in a fuel efficient vehicle that can hold considerable volume.

This translates into excellent value for money, so let’s take a look at three of the biggest models:

1. Renault Master Box Van

This is something of an old-fashioned model that has been redesigned for the modern age, as it is a square-sided box van rather than one that features a panel layout.

This variant of the so-called Master range is also considered to hold the highest volume among modern commercial vehicles, with an estimated capacity and load space of 22m3.

The reason for this is the fact that the van is categorised as a Luton vehicle, which means that the cargo area extends above and over the cab and features a considerable amount of additional space.

This is therefore ideal for carrying large items of a high volume of goods during a single trip.

2. Vauxhall Movano

In many ways, this is largely the same van, with the only difference being a slightly reduced volume and load capacity. The Vauxhall Movano can hold an estimated volume of 21.7m3, and while this is small than the Renault Master Box Van the physical difference of just 0.3m3 is scarcely discernible.

Both models have been designed to incorporate the renowned Luton shape and body style, however, with an additional load area extended over and above the cabin.

3. Nissan Cabstar

Yet another Luton styled vehicle, the Nissan Cabstar is most commonly seen with a flatbed on the back and therefore treads the thin line between van and truck.

It has a flat front and a high cabin too, although its capacity actually belies a reasonably low weight and a relatively compact size.

Unlike the majority of vans sold in the UK, it has no viable alternative outside of the Nissan brand and its flexibility makes it a popular purchase. A load capacity of 19m3 is also not to be sniffed out, so this is definitely a model to consider in 2015.
