Citroen Nemo HDi 75 manual Stop & Start 660 X

What is it?

NEW Euro 5-compliant diesel engine for Citroen’s popular compact city van, giving even lower emissions and improved fuel economy. Addition of Stop & Start technology helps too. Expect similar powertrain change for Nemo’s siblings, Fiat Fiorino and Peugeot Bipper.

What’s hot?

Citroen Nemo HDi Euro 5 engine

Smaller Euro 5 engine: power up and 65.7mpg

  • New engines are smaller than the old 1.4 HDi units…
  • …but offer greater power (up from 70hp to 75hp)
  • There’s also a major increase in peak torque, lower down…
  • …it’s now 190Nm at 1,500rpm; previously 160Nm at 1,750rpm
  • Nemo’s urban cycle fuel consumption is now 55.4mpg – up 10.5%
  • 65.7mpg combined cycle consumption is 4.4% improvement
  • That’s a £230 saving (3yrs/20,000 miles) compared to old Euro 4 1.4HDi
  • CO2 emissions are now down to just 113g/km from 119g/km
  • Euro 5 1.3HDi engine also has self-regenerating Diesel Particulate Filter
  • Lighter new engine means a 50kg increase in payload…
  • …which is now 660kg, hence the 660 model designation
  • Body is deceptively big but overall length less than a Ford Fiesta Van…
  • Loadfloor length is 1.52m; volume is 2.5cu m – fits a standard ISO pallet
  • Extenso folding passenger seat is now fitted as standard
  • This increases the available load volume by 0.3cu.m to 2.8cu.m…
  • …and lengthens the load deck by 968mm to 2,491mm
  • Useful new folding mesh bulkhead is a £189 ex-VAT accessory
  • Fiat Grande Punto platform means excellent manoeuvrability…
  • …turning circle is less than 10m
  • Cab is car-like and comfortable, with excellent headroom

What’s not?

Citroen Nemo HDi 75 load space area

Compact shape hides versatile load area

  • Basic X model has no side doors; spend the extra for LX or Enterprise
  • Stop & Start takes some getting used to…
  • You have to keep your foot on the brake pedal to keep the engine off
  • It requires a hefty boot of the clutch to restart
  • Peugeot Bipper and Fiat Fiorino are the same basic van – so shop around

Business Van Manager Road Test Rating

The PSA-Fiat ‘minicargo’ vans, of which the Citroen Nemo is one, have been very successful – and now they’ve been given new engines to comply with Euro 5 regulations that come in to force this year. This has allowed a smaller and lighter but more powerful engine to be used, giving a winning combination of better power and torque and more payload. Flexible bulkhead and Extenso seat are great features too, but consider the slightly more expensive LX or Enterprise trim to get standard side door.
