Parcel company DPD UK has passed a milestone in its electrification plans with a third of its final-mile van fleet now comprised of electric vans (EVs).
In addition some 95% of the DHL combustion-engined fleet is now running on HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil) which reduces emissions by 83% compared to traditional diesel, as the firm remains on target to deliver a 46% reduction in emissions by the end of 2024, from a baseline set in 2020.
As part of Geopost, DPD UK has a target of reaching Net Zero in 2040, fully validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and the DPD UK operation is on track to meet the group target.
An additional 350 4.25-tonne Ford eTransits will be rolled out across DPD UK’s operations over the next few months, taking the firm’s EV fleet close to 4,000 strong.

DPD UK opened a new flagship London sortation centre in Bromley-By-Bow, Docklands, in November and this is now getting up to speed, consistently deploying more than 90% all-electric final-mile vehicles as part of DPD’s plan to deliver electric only across London.
According to DPD meeting the reduction in emissions of 46% by the end of the year will equate to a total reduction of 167,664 metric tons of CO2 since 2020.
According to DPD UK marketing, communications and sustainability director Tim Jones, the delivery company is six years in more committed than ever to delivering real benefits in terms of decarbonising its business and improving every aspect of its operation.
“While our fully validated Net Zero target remains 2040, we are working hard to bring through as much change and innovation as possible right now and, as these figures show, we are on track with the trajectory required to meet the group target and are making a real difference already,” Jones said.
He added; “There will be harder challenges down the line, we are well aware of that, but we will continue to work with the best in the sustainability space and invest in the innovation required to get to where we want to be.”
