Mercedes-Benz commercial dealership Intercounty Truck & Van is opening a new service and parts centre in Dunstable, Bedfordshire.

The company, which operates across the Midlands and Lincolnshire, is investing £2 million into the new site, creating 30 new jobs in the process.

Based around a totally up-to-date workshop for the servicing and maintenance of all makes of vans, the facility will also offer over-the-counter parts and a range of EV facilities including eight charging points for customers.

Customers who encounter issues will be offered a priority service to minimise downtime for drivers and reducing disruption within the local area. Three 24-hour service vans will be based at the centre to  provide round-the-clock roadside assistance in the local area and emergency customer site visits – the dealership also has plans to introduce full 24-hour servicing in the near future.

The location of the new centre is both in the middle of the Woodside Industrial Estate, one of the largest in the south east, and only minutes from Junction 11 and 11a of the M1 motorway and London Luton Airport.

The opening of the new centre will be accompanied by a major investment in technician training. This includes actively recruiting the next generation of skilled technicians through an apprentice programme and participating in the Mercedes-Benz EV technical training pathway. This allows technicians to repair electric vehicle equipment, including batteries, down to component level, and according to Intercounty exceeds generic EV training available in the general aftermarket.

Intercounty managing director Nic Skillman describes the opening of the new site as offering incredible opportunity ,”both for us as a business and for the local economy – particularly as we welcome the transition to electric.

“We’ve been operating as a Mercedes-Benz franchise for over 20 years, covering Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and Lincolnshire. Now, we have a new, state-of-the-art dealership with huge market potential that sits in a prime location in Bedfordshire – a stone’s throw from the M1 and around the corner from our customers at Luton Airport, which is set to double in capacity over the next 20 years.”
