Hertfordshire entrepreneur Peter Hilton has recently added a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter to his Hilton Rental fleet line-up. His new rental-company venture offers a range of hire vehicles including budget, prestige, sports, 4x4s and wedding cars, as well as campervans and minibuses. The 313CDI long-wheelbase Sprinter is the most recent addition to the Bishop Stortford company’s fleet.

Vehicle rental manager Adam Sydes said: “We’ve already seen a lot of demand for our new Sprinter. “It’s proving particularly popular with private customers undertaking their own house or office moves, as well as for retailers and couriers needing an additional vehicle for a short period during a particularly busy time.”

Peter Hilton started in business more than 25 years ago, when he set up a car body repair shop in his parents’ double garage. Today, his accident repair centre Hilton Coachworks is approved by 17 manufacturers, including Mercedes-Benz. Other Hilton Group businesses include classic car retailer Hilton & Moss, new Lotus and TVR dealer Castle Sportscars, as well as windscreen, tyre and fleet leasing operations.

Hilton uses Mercedes trucks and vans throughout his businesses, but the Hilton Rental Sprinter marks the first occasion on which he has bought a Mercedes-Benz business van for use by his own customers. The van was supplied by Mercedes-Benz dealer S & B Commercials’ Stansted dealership as a chassis cab. The van conversion– a Luton body with aerodynamic, cab roof-mounted pod, as well as a Ratcliff Palfinger 500kg column tail-lift – was carried out by GM Billings & Sons of Epping.

Hilton Rental customers could benefit from the Sprinter’s fuel efficiency, which is said to be 15% better than that of its equivalent predecessor

Hilton Rental purchased its new van with funding support from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. The van has a three-year, unlimited mileage manufacturer’s warranty. The 313CDI model is powered by a 129hp Euro 5 engine, which is said to be 15 per cent more frugal than its equivalent predecessor. That equates to an extra 4.5 miles per gallon, while CO2 emissions are down by 13 per cent.
