THE seasonal hiring boom for last-mile drivers puts huge pressure on fleet managers to onboard new employees while undertaking compliance checks.

This year is set to be another bumper year for recruitment, with Amazon, one of the largest seasonal employers in the UK,  set to recruit up to 20,000 extra workers in delivery and warehouses. While Currys has 1,000 roles in its retail and supply chain, including delivery and install drivers, Evri and Yodel are hiring 4,000 couriers and warehouse staff each.

To help fleet managers manage the process, technology company Digital INNK has launched a cost-effective driving licence checker that uses the latest APIs.

Angela Montacute, Chief Executive of Digital INNK, said: “Fleet managers face huge pressure at this time of year meeting compliance procedures for thousands of new drivers. So we worked with the industry to develop an easy-to-implement solution that allows drivers to complete their own checks and submit the evidence at the push of a button. Our research shows an average saving of over 20% on existing processes.”

Digital INNK says its app allows automated driver license checking and fit-to-drive declarations to be displayed live in a dashboard, enabling managers to focus on employees with gaps in the required information.

Christmas is often called the Golden Quarter, where retailers can make the majority of their yearly profits. Experts at PWC say one in four consumers intends to spend more this festive season, with an expected total spend of £21 billion on presents and celebrations.

Montacute added: “We believe technology has a pivotal role to play in helping firms manage rising business costs. So, we worked hard to deliver a product that is cost-effective and delivers real efficiency savings to fleet managers.”
