Property maintenance group Wates Property Services has taken a major step towards decarbonisation of its vehicle fleet by adding 30 electric Volkswagen ID.Buzz Cargo vans to its latest order of 30 VW Transporter vans.

Part of the Wates Group and specialising in property maintenance and zero-carbon retrofit services, the firm selected the ID. Buzz Cargo to help reduce its fleet emissions footprint – the vehicle claims a WLTP-certified range of 254 miles and using it will improve the firm’s  access to properties in the Ultra-Low Emissions Zone around Greater London.

The all-electric van offers a payload volume of 3.9 cubic metres and a maximum loading width of 1.7 metres, but Wates also required a fleet of larger vehicles with the payload, space and flexibility for bigger tasks. So the Transporter was selected with its 1,185kg payload,.

Wates Property Services Executive Managing Director David Morgan said that the firm has introduced 55 fully electric vehicles since 2021, replacing some of its older diesel vans. “Our latest investment into electrifying our fleet highlights our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint in our operations and the work we do on behalf of our customers to support a thriving planet,” he added.

According to Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles National Fleet Manager Craig Cavanagh the order is a vote of confidence in the vehicles. “We’re confident that the vehicles will exceed the expectations of the finance team, with low-running costs making it the perfect partner for the whole business,” he said.
